Kanye West is rumored to be performing at an upcoming Democratic National Committee fundraiser in San Francisco. While West is definitely attending the Oct. 10 fundraiser, NBC reports that he’s expected to perform new songs from his delayed album SWISH.
The news outlet goes on to say that the album is being billed as an “afternoon concert… with tickets selling for $250 to $10,000 each.”
While Kanye West won’t be running in this election, he announced his own presidential ambitions on a whim at the MTV VMAs in August. He doubled down on those statements in his recent Vanity Fair interview, and (surprisingly) praised Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson.
“As soon as I heard [Ben] Carson speak, I tried for three weeks to get on the phone with him. I was like, ‘This is the most brilliant guy.’ “
Also surprising was Kanye’s platform of unity. The notoriously divisive artist said he would run with the idea of bringing together partisan elements.
“And I think all the people running right now have something that each of the others needs. But the idea of this separation and this gladiator battle takes away from the main focus that the world needs help and the world needs all the people in a position of power or influence to come together.”
I know, as a music writer, I’m supposed to be excited over the SWISH tracks. But I kind of want him to whip out “Black Skinheads” and “New Slaves” just to see the awkward expressions and Brett Favre claps.
