2017 was an up and down year for Kehlani: She released her debut album SweetSexySavage that peaked at No. 3, but she ended up having to cancel shows multiple times for health reasons. The goods news is that she’s felt well enough to make new music since her album: She previously shared the songs “Honey,” “Touch,” and “Already Won,” and now the 22-year-old singer is back with another standalone track, “Again.”
The song is a soulful acoustic guitar track carried by Kehlani’s strong vocal performance. There’s not much in terms of instrumentation aside the aforementioned and some faint whistling hiding in the background, but Kehlani’s confident and emotional singing is more than enough to successfully get this simple and lovely song from A to B.
She shared the single art on Instagram and wrote, “Unmixed just like I like it. Imperfect and honest. 11:11. Here’s how I’m feeling.”
There’s no word yet on whether this string of standalone singles are going to be part of an upcoming project from Kehlani or if they truly are just standalone singles to bide the time between albums. What we do know for sure is that Kehlani is thriving in the tech space, as her “health and wellness” start-up recently secured $50,000 in funding.
