Kendrick Lamar is understandably at the top of the world right now. He just headlined his second weekend of Coachella, his new album DAMN. is being lauded and soaring commercially and even his momma loves it. Now, he has a new accolade to add to his resume as his hit “Humble” tops Billboard’s Hot 100 chart, giving Kendrick his first No. 1 record of his career as a lead act.
The latest accomplishment — or astonishment — is even more amazing when you toss in the fact that another DAMN. track joined “Humble” in the Top 5 on the Hot 100. After releasing the video for the song starring Don Cheadle last week, “DNA” checks in at No. 4 on the chart, making Kendrick the first artist to post two Top 5 hits at once since Justin Bieber back in October.
All of this chart success — DAMN. is also, obviously, the No. 1 album on Billboard‘s Top 200 Albums chart as well — should just about shatter the myth that he’s not a chart success or “as big as” his maybe rival Drake. “Humble” soars to No. 1 just two weeks after its release despite a considerable amount of backlash about his ““I’m so f*ckin’ sick and tired of the Photoshop” line and the depiction of the line in the video.
Now all that’s left for Kendrick is to kill that summer tour like you know he will.
