Kesha released a short snippet of a new song as a thank you to her fans for supporting her in her legal battle against pop producer Dr. Luke. Kesha’s lawyer Mark Geragos posted the unnamed track to Twitter with the caption: “A special thanks to everyone who has had her back” and the hashtag #animals, Kesha’s name for her fans.
On the low-key track, Kesha sings “Oh I do not know what I would do, without you” in reference to her supporters, famous and otherwise, who have rallied around the #FreeKesha cause. Kesha’s request for an injunction that would allow her to record outside of her contract with Sony and Dr. Luke’s imprint Kemosabe Records was denied by a New York Supreme Court judge. Since that time, celebrities as disparate as Lena Dunham, Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga have come out in support of the singer who claims she was sexually assaulted by Dr. Luke (real name: Lukasz Gottwald).
Both Dr. Luke and his lawyer vehemently deny Kesha’s allegations of sexual assault. Dr. Luke defended himself on Twitter, saying that he’s never had sex with Kesha and thought of her as a “little sister.” Luke’s lawyer issued a statement that indirectly attacked the #FreeKesha hashtag and called the allegations of sexual assault “outright lies.”
