Sure, Adele’s album 25 is on pace to sell about three million copies in its first week. But did you know there was another record this week that came close to breaking the coveted *NSYNC first-week album sales record? It was just shy, by about 2.4 million album sales.

The highly anticipated Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck soundtrack Montage of Heck: The Home Recordings did not sell as well as some expected, moving only 5,000 albums in its opening week. While that number does not seem like a lot, it did manage to land the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s soundtracks charts and No. 6 on the alternative charts. Overall, The Home Recordings landed at No. 121 on Billboard’s top 200.

For Cobain fans, this wasn’t an essential album to own, because all of the recordings were just demos and different takes on demos that have been included in other Nirvana box sets. But now we know there are 5,000 Kurt Cobain superfans out there who will buy even demos of demos.
