Lady Gaga is ready to dive back into her day job of being a pop juggernaut and apparently she’s got some incredible tunes at the ready. At least, that’s the forecast laid out by Gaga pal Elton John and he seems like someone that has a smidge credibility in the field of recognizing quality tracks.
In an interview with Zane Lowe for Beats 1, John not only revealed that he has some dish on Mother Monster’s upcoming output, but he also shared that he’ll be writing with Gaga tomorrow. There have been rumblings that Lady Gaga is prepping a new studio album for 2016 and tidbits like hearing that Gaga and John are set to collaborate seem to back that up. John says the cuts he’s heard so far are reminiscent of the singer’s top shelf tunes.
“I’ve heard two songs, which are killer. They’re just great songs. It’s like back to the early stuff of hers, like ‘You and I’ and the Bruce Springsteen one — as I always call it — ‘Bad Romance.'”
Pretty sure you’re the only one that calls it that Elton, but that’s alright. That said, we wouldn’t mind Bruce Springsteen covering “Bad Romance” and maybe doing a shot-for-shot remake of the video.
Elsewhere in Elton-on-Gaga talk, the knighted 68-year-old Brit shared that he thought his friend’s 2013 full-length ARTPOP missed the mark. It’s an admission that puts him in league with everyone else on Earth, aside from the die hardiest of Little Monsters, but he stresses that she rebounded in a big way.
“ARTPOP was not a great idea,” he said. “It was not a good album and I think she would admit that. Then in the midst of that, she did three things which were kind of amazing. She did the whole tour and album with Tony Bennett, which did amazingly well. She sang the Julie Andrews tribute at the Oscars, which everybody loved. And she was on American Horror Story.”
There’s no word on when these tracks will ever see the light of day, but we’ll keep you posted when they do. In the meantime, here’s the Gaga + John performance that you forgot happened on her 2013 Muppets holiday special.
