For two pop stars who originally hit it big in the mid-to-late 1990s, Neneh Cherry and Robyn sound remarkably fresh. Proof: their collaboration on the first official single from Cherry’s first solo album since 1996, “Out of the Black.” The production, courtesy of Four Tet, grabs your attention, and the vocals keep it.
Here’s Cherry on “Black”:
She’s on a song called “Out of the Black”, and it’s not the one that you would expect that we would have collaborated on. The obvious thing would be for Robyn and I to do a jumping-up-and-down-type song or something a bit more cheeky, but it’s quite melancholy. (Via)
But not SO melancholy that it can’t turn into a jumping-up-and-down-type song.
