In 2005, I heard My Chemical Romance for the first time when they opened for Green Day during the latter’s American Idiot tour. They played Albany’s Pepsi Center, and although I got to the show late, during MCR’s in-progress set, I immediately got the gist of why these guys were so popular: they were loud, they were theatrical, they wore their hearts on their sleeves, they were “emo,” they were…not for me (except for “Helena”).
But you still had to root for MCR: they’re a New Jersey-bred rock band that earned mainstream success after rehearsing in attics and releasing their debut on a tiny indie label. Actually, they “were” all that, now that they’ve broken up. In a statement released by the group last night, they said:
“Being in this band for the past 12 years has been a true blessing. We’ve gotten to go places we never knew we would. We’ve been able to see and experience things we never imagined possible. We’ve shared the stage with people we admire, people we look up to, and best of all, our friends. And now, like all great things, it has come time for it to end. Thanks for all of your support, and for being part of the adventure.” (Via)
Hope you guys are ooooooooooooooooooooooooookkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk (I promise).
