It’s gonna be awhile before Paul Ryan can listen to “Year of the Boomerang” again. Congressman Ryan (Gosling), who Mitt Romney chose as his presidential running mate, has previously stated that Rage Against the Machine is his favorite band of all-time, a connotation that the group’s guitarist, Tom Morello, isn’t happy about. In an op-ed published on Rolling Stone‘s website, Morello wrote:
Paul Ryan’s love of Rage Against the Machine is amusing, because he is the embodiment of the machine that our music has been raging against for two decades. Charles Manson loved the Beatles but didn’t understand them. Governor Chris Christie loves Bruce Springsteen but doesn’t understand him. And Paul Ryan is clueless about his favorite band, Rage Against the Machine.
Ryan claims that he likes Rage’s sound, but not the lyrics. Well, I don’t care for Paul Ryan’s sound or his lyrics. He can like whatever bands he wants, but his guiding vision of shifting revenue more radically to the one percent is antithetical to the message of Rage. (Via)
“The machine our music rages against.” Clever, and something I wish more bands would say about politicians. “He makes our bizkits limp.” “He stomps in our puddles of mudd, blinding everyone.” “This King and his Queen are bringing us back to the Stone Age.” “He Matthews…our Dave Band.” Damn. Had something going there.
