Jonathan Hays, Rihanna’s former publicist, has admitted to creating the previously reported rumor that Jay Z had hooked up with the singer, purportedly leading to a year long pause in Jay’s relationship with Beyoncé. As we learned this previous week, the rumor is explored in detail in a forthcoming (unofficial by the way) biography of the Queen B titled, Becoming Beyoncé: The Untold Story, written by J. Randy Taraborrelli.
And, well, now we totally know that it was a made up rumor used to help Rihanna’s debut single, “Pon De Replay,” gain traction, which is a trash move on Hays. “I was desperate at the time because I wanted to have a hit record,” Hay told Inside Edition. “We were young and stupid.”
It’s convenient that Hays chose to drop this news when he’s working on new material of his own, as well as planning on dropping that music through Tidal. “It was reckless and I didn’t think it was going to work,” Hay said. “I was just throwing spaghetti at the wall to see what would stick.“
According to the New York Daily News, Hays has already apologized to Beyoncé. But damn, dude. Trying to destroy America’s most prized couple (because let’s be real, the only #relationshipgoal that matters is Beyoncé and Jay Z) is going to come with some consequences. But at least you came clean.
