The Spice Girls Are ‘Reuniting’ To Do Basically Nothing

Spice Girls reunions are a pretty huge deal: Tickets for their 2007 comeback show sold out in just 38 seconds, and when they got back together to perform at the 2012 Olympics in London, they generated 116,000 tweets per minute during their performance. Over the past few years, members of the girl group have spent time together and there have been whispers of a reunion, and now, it looks like it’s finally happening, although it probably won’t be what fans are hoping for.

According to The Sun, all five original Spice Girls have signed £10million (about $14.1 million) deals to get back together for some new projects, none of which are a tour or any new music. Instead, the group is expected to involve themselves in promoting a greatest hits album, TV shows in China, a TV talent show, and endorsement deals. It’s also believed that this reunion hinges on Victoria Beckham (Posh Spice) not having to do any singing.

The Sun cites “an insider” as saying, “Victoria and Geri agreed it would be impossible to be part of a fully-fledged tour because of family and business commitments. Now that she’s a top designer, Victoria is concerned about singing but she wants to make money to pump back into her business.” Another source says, “This is the pop reunion no one thought would ever happen again. But after a long period of negotiation, Victoria agreed the time is right to work on new projects this year. It’s very exciting because she has always been adamant she wouldn’t go back.”

At the very least, Beckham posted a photo today of the group all together again and they seem happy to be there, so who knows: Maybe being around each other will inspire the Spice Girls to do actual reunion-type things.
