The world of True Detective is not an inviting one to live in (unless you’re a landscaper), but at least the music’s killer. I’d probably go to a lot more biker bars if they had Sleep and the Melvins on the jukebox, and break into more stash houses if it meant the raid was soundtracked by Wu-Tang Clan. Like seemingly every show or movie with a great soundtrack, the indispensable T. Bone Burnett is True Detective‘s music producer and composer, and he’s handpicked everything from winning regional songs (Steve Earle, Townes Van Zandt, and Lucinda Williams) to obscurities from the likes of Grinderman and Captain Beefheart.

There’s never a bad time to listen to Richard Thompson.
