A Tribe Called Quest have been forced to cancel their entire slate of dates through Europe this Summer. According to Roskilde, a major festival in Denmark, the group’s front man Q-Tip apparently sustained a shoulder injury that will require surgery. The legendary MC’s doctor has ordered that he rest and recuperate, which unfortunately means that Tribe’s European fanbase will miss out on catching them live in 2017. At Roskilde anyway, the organizers have brought in Ice Cube to take over the group’s slot, as well as Digible Planets.
At this time, it’s unclear what implications Q-Tips injury holds for the group’s many festival dates lined up in America. Tribe has been slated to perform at Pitchfork in Chicago, FYF Fest in Los Angeles, and Panorama in New York all in July. The group has yet to officially comment on how long Tip will remain out of commission.
What especially stings about this slate of cancellations is the prospect that these could be the last time A Tribe Called Quest ever hits the road. Q-Tip himself seemed to allude to that idea in an interview with Billboard shortly after the group’s last album, We Got It From Here…Thank You 4 Your Service dropped. “This is our last record, and we’ll probably do a world tour,” he said. “After that, that’s it, for the rest of our lives.”
We’ll update this story as it develops.
