There are going to a ton of guest features on A Tribe Called Quest‘s final album We Got It From Here… Thank You 4 Your Service. Everyone from Jack White to Kendrick Lamar and back is stopping by to make an appearance. But one feature should have rap nerds salivating more than the others. Kanye West is going to drop in on the album and ATCQ wanted him there so bad, that they actually went to him.
While all other featured artists on Service recorded in Q-Tip’s New Jersey studio, Consequence says that they made an exception for ‘Ye and his feature on “The Killing Season”.
“I flew out to L.A. to work with ‘Ye on it. Me and Tip discussed it, because of me and ‘Ye’s history,” he told Complex. “[Tribe] was the thing we gelled on when we first met as far as me and Kanye is concerned. That’s why he initially moved to New York; he wanted to work with me.”
Kanye apparently returned the favor later, flying to meet in Q-Tip’s studio to work on the track.
“It took a couple trips,” Consequence said. “And Kanye did actually come to Tip’s studio and they got it in. They all got it in. I took one more trip out to ‘Ye and then we got it done.”
We got it from Here is out tomorrow, November 11 on Epic.
