Bethe “Pitbull” Correia already has her dance card filled for an August meeting with undefeated UFC Bantamweight Champion, “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey at UFC 190. There’s no need to call out a woman who’s destroyed every opponent with ease, usually in record time. Correia doesn’t care, though, and her war of words against the champion took a dark turn recently. In an interview with Globo, helpfully translated by Yahoo!, Correia said:
“Under pressure, she is proving weak. When her mom put pressure on her, she ran away from home. When she lost, it was because of drugs. That’s not a superhero. She is not mentally healthy; she needs to take care of herself. She is winning, so everybody is around her cheering her up, but when she realizes she is not everything that she believes she is, I don’t know what might happen. I hope she does not kill herself later on (laughs).”
That’s incredibly insensitive, considering Rousey’s father committed suicide when Rousey was a child. While that might not be the most widely-known Rousey fact, since Correia has been talking about things Rousey’s written in her book, which does cover her father’s death, I would wager there’s a strong chance Correia is aware of how ghastly her comment was.
Correia will have to back up her words as Rousey attempts to pull her arms off at UFC 190 on Aug. 1.
