There are thousands of Jon Stewart GIFs floating around the Internet. I’m probably responsible for a few hundred myself. But this one from Wednesday night’s episode about the Mets might be my favorite. Pure, unadulterated love. Pure fan euphoria.
Stewart’s love/hate affair with the Mets is well-chronicled. Over the years, Stewart has lived — and mostly died — with the team. They’ve been particularly awful since 2009.
2015 New York Mets / National League / 58-50 / .537
2014 New York Mets / National League / 79-83 / .488
2013 New York Mets / National League / 74-88 / .457
2012 New York Mets / National League / 74-88 / .457
2011 New York Mets / National League / 77-85 / .475
2010 New York Mets / National League / 79-83 / .488
2009 New York Mets / National League / 70-92 / .432
But things are different this year. Somehow, some way, the Mets find themselves all alone in first place on Aug. 6. It’s a Mets miracle, they’re… AMAZIN’ (I’m so sorry).
Even Stewart’s buddy Jerry Seinfeld is getting in on all the fun.
Oh my god. @Mets
I can't believe I can actually say this, but is it true that there is now
"A Cespedis for the rest of us"?#mets#T7L— Jerry Seinfeld (@JerrySeinfeld) July 31, 2015
Stewart’s finale on Thursday night should be interesting. If nothing else, fans deserve a montage of his great sports takes and all the times he’s “eviscerated all his eviscerations” on The Daily Show.
You’re up, Trevor Noah. Good luck, sir.
