Well, at least now we know what New York Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul’s hand looks like. Or, what’s left of it.
Pierre-Paul, as you probably well know by now, was the victim of a fireworks incident in July that resulted in his right index finger being amputated. However, as ESPN’s Dan Graziano and Ed Werder reported earlier this week, Pierre-Paul was also missing a part of his right thumb—something apparently unbeknownst to the Giants until recently. Werder summed things up by saying JPP’s hand was “badly damaged.”
And now we see just how badly, courtesy of these explicit photos from the New York Daily News:

Yeah. That’s… bad. As you can see, the index finger is gone, as previously reported, but the middle finger and thumb are badly damaged, too.

JPP still has not signed a franchise tag with the Giants—a possibility before his injury—but maintains that he doesn’t need all four fingers and his thumb to sack opposing quarterbacks. Maybe, but if reports of the original injury didn’t reflect its full extent, there is probably less confidence in JPP now from the Giants’ perspective. After all, semantics are pretty important here:
