The 2015 World Series between the Kansas City Royals and New York Mets got off to one hell of a start. Royals shortstop Alcides Escobar hit an inside-the-park home run in the bottom of the first inning (on the first pitch) against Matt Harvey. Escobar hit a 95-mph fastball into left-center field, but there appeared to be some miscommunication between Mets centerfielder Yoenis Cespedes and left fielder Michael Conforto and Cespedes completely misjudged the ball. By the time Conforto was able to track down the ball, it was already too late.
Per Fox, Escobar’s homer was the 12th inside the park home run in World Series history.
