The Cowboys took a tough loss on Sunday night in overtime against the Saints to drop them to 2-2 on the season, after getting burned on the first play from OT by C.J. Spiller for the game-winning 80-yard touchdown.
You could blame a lot of people for the Cowboys loss, but quarterback Brandon Weeden really isn’t one of them. Despite his reputation, Weeden has actually played relatively well for a backup since coming in for the injured Tony Romo. Against New Orleans, Weeden went 16-26 for 246 yards and the game tying touchdown late in the fourth quarter on fourth down to Terrence Williams.
Weeden wasn’t spectacular by any means, but he was definitely serviceable, and it’s hard to criticize him too much for the Saints out-gaining the Cowboys by more than 100 yards on the day. That is, unless you’re Jerry Jones.
Jerry Jones: It’s not quite apples and oranges when the guy on the other side is Brees and you’re dealing with a guy as limited as Weeden.

Way to make your starting quarterback feel good, Jerry.
Keep in mind, these comments are coming just a week after Jones said that you “won’t find a more gifted passer” than Weeden, and that he felt good about having Weeden as the starter until Romo is healthy.
Weeden is now a tough-luck 0-3 as a starter in his career with the Cowboys, and the team did bring in veteran Matt Cassel this week. While no one would put it past Jones to push for a change at the position now that the Cowboys are on a losing streak, it would be a little ridiculous to pull Weeden at this point, no matter how “limited” he is.
