One fateful, spectacularly drunken night has turned Bruce Miller from gainfully employed fullback with the San Francisco 49ers to unemployed athlete facing multiple felony charges. For breaking into a father and son’s hotel room (after being denied one himself) and attacking both of them in a rage, Miller has been charged with seven felony counts and one misdemeanor.

The most serious of the charges is assault with a deadly weapon after he apparently used the 70-year-old father’s cane against one or both of the victims. The age of the father means that one of the charges was assault on the elderly. Three of the other felony counts were for assault, with the final two for criminal threats. San Francisco PD tacked on a misdemeanor battery charge as well.
There seems to be little doubt of Miller’s involvement in the attack, and while the facts of the case will be borne out in court, Miller could very well be facing jail time. Considering the scarcity of available fullback positions in the NFL, we could be looking at the end of Miller’s career. The 49ers will take on the St. Louis Rams on Monday night for their first game of the NFL season.
