Just got home from the ER… But at least we won the game? @YasielPuig @Dodgers pic.twitter.com/RxwR4HiC12

Baseball players throwing balls into the stands as souvenirs is a tradition as old as any of our memories. It’s a great way to make lasting memories for fans and enhance their connections to players on the field. There’s just the one downside, though — to properly enjoy it, fans need to catch the ball. Dodgers fan Alyssa Gerharter attended her team’s game against the Yankees in the Bronx on Monday night, from this seat in the right field bleachers:

Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig manned that position on Monday night, and when he caught the game’s final out, he turned to the bleachers, picked out a clutch of Dodgers fans, and lofted the ball toward them. Well, more accurately, he lofted it directly toward Gerharter’s face, knocking out her front tooth like you see above. That’s really unfortunate! Unfortunately, we don’t have any video breaking down where things went wrong, but one can imagine Gerharter was part of a crowd going for the ball, and might not have had the cleanest opportunity at a catch. We’re just trying to give her the benefit of the doubt, here.
Getting hit in the face tends to get some attention (case in point: our article), and Alyssa would like you to know that she’s heard your voices.
thank you kind internet strangers for your oddly supportive tweets about my face
