Every once in a while during the NFL Draft, the crowd will do something that reminds you that some things are way more important that football. That happened during the second round of the draft, right before the Buffalo Bills announced that they selected Ronald Darby out of Florida State.
Since it’s the second round, teams will have a special representative announce their picks. For the Bills, the choice was obvious: former quarterback and All-Pro Jim Kelly. Right before Goodell introduced the cancer survivor, the crowd in Chicago stood up and gave Kelly a massive ovation. Everyone in the Auditorium Theatre acknowledged the five-time Pro Bowler and Buffalo legend before breaking out into a raucous “KEL-LY” chant. Even after Goodell introduced Kelly to the crowd, the applause continued.
Kelly then took a moment to thank everyone in the NFL community for their thoughts and prayers while he battled cancer, then announced that the team selected Darby with pick No. 50.
It was an awesome moment, and it could very easily go down as the coolest thing to happen during the 2015 draft.
