It’s been a nightmare season for the Eagles, who sit at 4-7 and are currently struggling through a three-game losing streak. And taking most of the heat for it is head coach Chip Kelly, who has seemingly lost the fan base with his questionable personnel decisions and unconventional coaching methods. If Kelly isn’t careful, he could lose the locker room, too.
Chip’s highly anticipated offseason transactions have quickly turned into transgressions. The Sam Bradford trade hasn’t quite panned out. He’s been a pedestrian quarterback who lacks the accuracy or mobility to flourish in Kelly’s system, and has been injured. So, basically, he’s the Bradford we all knew before Philly. DeMarco Murray looks like a running back who carried the ball more than 400 times last season and is quickly approaching age 30. Murray’s downfield running style hasn’t meshed with Kelly’s system, which involves a heavy dose of horizontal running plays.
In a vacuum, the Eagles’ poor play is disappointing, but when it’s transposed onto the decrepit NFC East, their poor play looks like a missed opportunity of epic proportions. Nothing is going well for the Eagles right now. They’ve given up 45 points in consecutive games for the first time in team history. The Eagles’ performance down the final stretch may decide whether or not Chip Kelly still stands as a star upon the their Christmas tree.
