John Daly carded a 73 during the opening round of the PGA Championship at Whistling Straits on Thursday. His score put him seven strokes off the lead, but still well within range to consider himself in contention heading into the weekend. Unfortunately, things took a turn for the worse for him on Friday, as he took 10 strokes to complete the par three seventh hole.

With three-consecutive shots finding the water, Daly took his frustrations out on his club, heaving it into Lake Michigan. Later, an enterprising young kid with a boat retrieved it for a nice souvenir.

Daly was able to rebound with a par on the eighth hole, but, as of this writing, remains well back of the leaders. At least he’ll always have his Tin Cup moment.
