While Lamar Jackson was with his Heisman Trophy in New York, a party back in Louisville escalated into a dangerously violent situation.
According to ABC News, linebackers James Hearns and Henry Famurewa were shot at an off-campus apartment that was hosting a celebration of Jackson’s win. Three more people were admitted to hospitals with what police described as non-life-threatening injuries.
Hearns led Louisville with eight sacks this season and, according to his former high school coach in the Tallahassee Democrat, is doing well.
“He said he was at a (Louisville) track athlete’s party and said some locals showed up, people who didn’t even go to the school. The track kids were trying to get them out of there, and he said one of the bystanders started shooting. He (Hearns) was running away. He said the guy started shooting into the crowd and got hit in the back of the elbow.”
The original WHAS 11 report says the party was for Jackson, so it’s possible the high school coach got some misinformation. Considering how many people needed to a hospital trip, it’s a miracle this didn’t turn out worse for someone.
Police are still searching for suspects.
