Lane Kiffin was instrumental in helping lead Alabama to its fourth national championship title in seven years on Monday night, but that apparently doesn’t guarantee the offensive coordinator a ride home from the game. Following the Crimson Tide’s 45-40 victory over Clemson, the ‘Bama bus rolled out of University of Phoenix Stadium without Kiffin.

Kiffin reportedly got caught up talking to reporters following the victory and, by the time he wrapped up, the cavalry had already departed without him. Was it an unfortunate break, or did Kiffin muck it up with the media just a bit too long for Nick Saban’s liking? One would assume that it was an honest mistake — it’s easy to get caught up in the excitement of winning a national title — but you never really know with a no-nonsense guy like Saban. Would it really surprise anyone if Saban made the call to leave without his offensive coordinator?
I’m sure he managed to ultimately get home just fine, but one’s gotta think that being abandoned and left to fend for yourself would take some air out of the high. Not to mention Uber’s surge pricing was probably ridiculous at that point in time…poor Lane. Some guys just can’t catch a break.
