On Saturday a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Nepal just outside of Kathmandu, killing and injuring thousands of people. The earthquake’s force caused a ripple effect in the nearby Himalayan mountains, leading to a deadly avalanche on Mount Everest.
Images and video from base camp emerged late yesterday as survivors got in touch with loved ones over social media. One climber was able to catch the exact moment the avalanche overtook their camp. It is absolutely terrifying. It looks like something out of the movie Alive.
The clip contains some serious language (for obvious reasons). Most of the climbers in the video appear to escape relatively unscathed. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said of some of their colleagues, including Google executive Dan Fredinburg, who passed away in the ordeal.
