On Thursday night, Washington Redskins tight end Niles Paul suffered a gruesome injury when a Cleveland Browns player rolled into his leg. Not long after the team announced that Paul would miss the rest of the season with an ankle fracture (video is at the bottom of the post).
Gruden says Niles Paul has a season-ending ankle fracture dislocation. “A huge loss for us. He’s a great player & and a great leader."

Paul, a fifth-round draft pick in 2011 from Nebraska, signed a three-year contract in the offseason. This was his time to shine. This was his time to make a name for himself in the NFL.
Unsurprisingly, Paul was emotional after the game and took to Twitter. Heartbreaking stuff.
This one is a tough pill to swallow. Finally got the opportunity I always wanted since I entered this league. Took me 4 years to get there.

Life can be cruel sometimes. Thank you for all your well wishes & prayers. They are very much appreciated

And as if things couldn’t get worse for Washington, the team also lost backup TE Je’Ron Hamm to a left leg injury (severity unknown). This is an ugly reminder that football is a cruel, cruel game.
(WARNING: Gruesome injury)
