Northwestern head coach Pat Fitzgerald is well-known for being one of the more energetic and vocal head coaches in all of Division I football. Fitz is excitable no matter if things are going well or going poorly, but he’s probably not in all that great of a mood after his Wildcats have lost two straight games to fall out of the Top 25. It’s not all that surprising that Fitzgerald lets a few f-bombs fly here and there, but he still probably wishes he had chosen a different phrase to chew out safety Goodwin Igwebuike after this play.
After a long pass completion for Nebraska, the NU coach was initially upset with officials before aggressively motioning to Igwebuike to come over to him and saying: “You’re a half field safety. Tell me what the f*ck you’re doing?” Although Fitzgerald tried to cover his mouth, he didn’t account for the fact that the ref was still standing right next to him which made his diatribe pretty crystal clear even with the booing Cornhusker crowd in the background.
While Fitzgerald certainly wishes he didn’t get caught swearing at his players by a live microphone, he still has nothing on Jim McElwain.
