UFC on FOX 24 from Kansas City, Missouri featured a women’s strawweight contenders match between Michelle ‘The Karate Hottie’ Waterson and ‘Thug’ Rose Namajunas. Aside from it featuring two of the most exciting and marketable females in the UFC not named Ronda Rousey, the winner was looking at a potential shot at current champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk.
The big question going into this fight was whether Waterson’s wealth of experience would triumph over the youth and flash of Namajunas. In the end, Namajunas was too much for Michelle as Rose caught her with a huge headkick followed by some brutal ground and pound. While Waterson managed to make it back to her feet, Namajunas jumped on her back and locked up a choke, forcing ‘The Karate Hottie’ to tap.

It’s been nine months since Namajunas last fought in the UFC, losing a tough fought split decision to Karolina Kowalkiewicz. The improvement we just saw in this fight against Waterson has been impressive: Rose stalked and dismantled the extremely tough and crafty Michelle Waterson like she was some unranked newbie. It’s going to be hard for the UFC to deny she deserves a shot at Jedrzejczyk’s 115 pound belt … after the champ defends it at UFC 211 on May 13th against Jessica Andrade.
