Meet New Orleans Saints fan Tony Williams, a man at the center of controversy this week after wrestling a ball away from a woman during Sunday’s game. Williams, a season ticket holder since 1968 pays more than $1800 a year for his two tickets. Not only did he feel the ball was fair game, but in a way, he felt entitled to it.
And, oh yeah, he wanted it for his 8-year-old grandson. That too.

“He tossed the ball. It’s fair game, to me. My whole mindset was my grandson.”
“The Saints fans that were around me, and know me… they were all saying, ‘keep the ball.'” Williams said. “But the other people, where the lady was, was saying give her the ball. I caught it fair.”
Listen, I get that he wanted the ball for his grandson, I really do. But let’s stop with the “fair game” talk. The ball wasn’t intended for him. The ball was meant for the lady, otherwise, Jermaine Gresham’s not tossing it into the stands. You wanna say you “stole” it and there’s nothing we can do about it? Fine. I can’t argue with you man. But don’t say it was a 50-50 ball. That just ain’t true.
