The Cowboys and Giants partook in the most NFC East game possible during the Week 1 Sunday Night Football matchup. For 59 minutes, both tried their best to keep the other team in the game. More specifically, the Cowboys wide receivers were hell-bent on causing the Cowboys to lose the game. Devin Street and Jason Witten both had a ball carom off their hands into a Giants defender’s lap, leading to points both times. Cowboys receiver Cole Beasely joined in on the fun by losing a fumble that was returned for a Giants touchdown.
Ultimately, the Giants had the final gaffe when they threw the ball with 1:34 remaining in regulation on third and goal from the Cowboys 2-yard line. That decision left the Cowboys with ample time to mount a game-winning drive without a timeout to their name.
Dez Bryant sat out the final drive with a foot injury, but that didn’t stop Antonio Ramiro Romo from driving down the field and driving a stake into the Giants’ heart. The game-winning play contained the one thing that makes Romo, good or bad, an exhilarating player to watch: chaos. He picks up a horrid snap like he’s done numerous times in his career, extends the play with his pocket presence and then finds his partner for life Jason Witten for the touchdown. The Cowboys had absolutely no business winning this game, but such is life in the NFC East.
With the win, the Cowboys move to 1-0 and Tom Coughlin turns a brighter shade of red.
It was announced after the game that Bryant suffered a broken bone in his foot and will miss four to six weeks, but that didn’t stop the wideout from celebrating wildly outside the locker room after the win.
