The Maple Leafs Used A ‘Sesame Street’ Meme To Lay The Smackdown On A Twitter Troll

The ever-growing trend of sports organizations using Twitter to make their #brand more hip has had its ups and downs. Recently, the good has included the Pittsburgh Penguins attempting to make a lame joke and then getting promptly smacked down by the Discovery Channel. The bad, however, has included a poor Houston Rockets employee losing his job over a few emojis.

As a result of this trend, Twitter can become a minefield for both trolls and teams alike. One misstep and — boom! — the whole world gets to laugh at you getting owned online.

The latest victim is a young girl named Megan, who appears to not care much for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Megan made the mistake of coming after the Leafs’ Twitter account with a partially accurate, but creatively-lacking burn, and she was swiftly whacked with a Sesame Street meme.

That’s a pretty demoralizing way to be dispatched, but thankfully Megan handled it with grace.

Maybe it’s time to get back to your summer reading, Megan.
