We’ve all been there before. You’re playing in a game and a call goes against you and you react by throwing objects into the crowd.
Wait you don’t do that? Neither do I.
Quincy Butler, a defensive back for the Portland Thunder did do that and in the process hit a young spectator in the crowd.
He was subsequently waived by the team. Well waived in the way AFL teams waive players. Here’s the team’s statement they released on Monday via Deadspin:
“The Portland Thunder of the Arena Football League has reassigned Defensive Back Quincy Butler, effective immediately, for conduct detrimental to the team and the Portland Thunder organization.
All AFL players are contracted employees of the Arena Football League and are assigned to the individual franchise. The Portland Thunder is prohibited from making any comments regarding any further sanctions that might be imposed by the AFL.”
Butler’s costly outburst came after he was penalized multiple times during the third quarter.
Don’t throw your helmet into the stands kids. If you do bad things will happen like one getting waived from a league no one watches and you will be mocked mercilessly by your fellow citizens.
