On Saturday night, the Southern and Texas Southern women’s basketball teams forfeited a game after a huge brawl between players, fans and cheerleaders broke out with 12:36 left in the second half. Officials from the Southwestern Athletic Conference reviewed this video to see which players were involved.
It’s pretty nasty.

After going over the video with a fine tooth comb, Texas Southern opted to withdraw from this week’s SWAC tournament. In addition, 15 players from both teams were suspended in what is “believed to one of the biggest number of suspensions in NCAA women’s basketball history.”
One player, Keonia Parrish of Southern (the woman in the light blue uniform throwing multiple haymakers) was dismissed from the team on Monday.
“After reviewing the video footage and conferring with our administration, our program made the decision to dismiss Keonia Parrish from the team based on her involvement in Saturday’s incident at Texas Southern,” coach Sandy Pugh said in a statement. “We would like to reiterate that any behavior of this nature is extreme and completely beyond the boundaries of tolerable. As a result, we felt that an immediate dismissal was warranted. We wish Keonia the best in her future endeavors.”
Southern will continue their season on Wednesday at noon against Grambling.
