One of the big questions that keeps coming up in relation to the never-ending #DeflateGate saga is how the referees didn’t notice that 11 of the 12 game balls used by the Patriots were under inflated during the AFC Championship game. There have been a lot of reasons offered, but in his appearance on Conan tonight, Drew Brees showed that he can instantly tell the exact weight of a football in his hands. Brees’ trick doesn’t really prove anything definitively since he was in a relaxed environment that isn’t at all on par with being in the middle of a game or out in the blistering cold, but it’s still pretty cool.
It’s also funny to see the All-Pro Quarterback nail an overhead light while trying to toss a fully inflated ball to a group of Saints fans in the audience, while Conan O’Brien notes that Brees has a much easier time throwing a comically under-inflated ball to another group of fans later in the segment. Keep this late night appearance in mind if Brees gets busted for deflated balls next season after throwing for 7,000 yards.
