Zach Johnson is your champion golfer of the year.
Johnson outlasted Marc Leishman and his good friend Louis Oosthuizen in a four hole playoff to win the 2015 British Open at St. Andrew’s. In a post-round interview with ESPN’s Tom Rinaldi, Johnson talked about his love for golf and how much the game has given to him.
“I’m grateful. I’m humbled. Um, I’m thankful. I’m honored. This is the birthplace of the game.”
“It hasn’t set in yet, to be honest.”
“It’s a beautiful game. It provides a great opportunity.”
Hard not to cheer for a guy like Johnson after hearing those words. It’s been an up-and-down eight years after Johnson’s win at the 2007 Masters. He’s been in contention at a handful of majors, including the 2010 PGA Championship, where he finished third. But he hasn’t been able to close the door, until now.
