Thanks to the enormous success and awesomeness of SyFy’s Sharknado 2: The Second One, which blew away our expectations and some social media records, Tara Reid’s career is soaring to unimaginable heights. In the wake of last Wednesday’s huge debut, Reid went from American Pie afterthought to the No. 3 trending topic in the United States, and she’s even a force to be reckoned with in the celebrity fragrance industry. Over the weekend, Reid celebrated her 2harknado co-star Vivica A. Fox’s 50th birthday in style, and that might have been the icing on the cake of a week of success that Reid never imagined would follow even just one made-for-TV film about giant tornadoes filled with sharks.
But there was a time, believe it or not, that things weren’t going so well for Reid, and she thought that attaching her name to a title as silly as Sharknado might have derailed her C-list train for good. As she told Billy Bush on Access Hollywood, she thought that the film’s original title, Dark Skies, sounded generic enough for people to ignore it when perusing her résumé, but once it was renamed Sharknado, she was so worried that people might – GASP! – make fun of her.
