It looks like TMZ might have let the cat out of the bag a little too soon. Earlier today, the media outlet reported that Saturday Night Live cast member Kenan Thompson planned on leaving the show at the end of the upcoming season. According to the article, sources claimed the comedian had plans to leave last year but stayed at the request of Lorne Michaels who needed the seasoned vet to help anchor the show amid big casting shakeups.
Well SNL is officially calling bullsh*t on this story. A spokesperson for the show denied the latest cast-related rumor calling the report “inaccurate”:
The season hasn’t even started and cast decisions aren’t made until the end of the season.
Thompson has been a mainstay on the sketch comedy show since he made his debut back in 2003 and he’s gone on the record saying he’d “never leave” the NBC late night series but TMZ alleged the actor has plans to move to LA once filming for the current season ends to pursue his own TV projects. We’ll have to wait and see if all the talk is real or not but in the meantime, SNL returns this weekend so let’s get excited.
