When Marvel and Netflix announced that they were going to go steady and produce four comic book hero shows (Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and The Iron Fist) and a team-up miniseries under the Defenders banner, there was much joy and merriment, but then we all got a look at Daredevil, realized it was pretty great, and had a little fright. Was that all the stand-alone Daredevil we’d get? Apparently the answer to that, now obviously silly, worry is no. Season 2 of Daredevil is on the way and set for a debut sometime in 2016 after resoundingly positive reviews and fan interest in the first season.
It’s not all rainbows and unicorns, though. In addition to the renewal news, Marvel also announced that Steven DeKnight will not be back as a producer or the showrunner, with DeKnight citing a prior commitment. In his place, Doug Petrie (who like DeKnight and initial Daredevil showrunner and current producer Drew Goddard, has deep Whedonverse ties) will work with Marco Ramirez (Sons of Anarchy) to run things this time around. Both Goddard and Ramirez worked with DeKnight and Goddard this season, according to the press release, so it’s not like the show is in stranger danger land. Which is a good thing.
As of right now, that’s all the detail we have — which is understandable at this early stage. With that said, though, fans can now switch from wondering if Daredevil season 2 is happening to wondering if Elektra, Bullseye, or any other classic Daredevilverse comic characters will pop up in season 2, and how the events within the other three Marvel/Netflix shows will effect Matt Murdock’s world.
