He went through a lot on Breaking Bad, so Aaron Paul has earned his much-needed break from TV since every drug dealer’s favorite show went off the air, give or take a BoJack Horseman. But his staycation (of punking BB fans) has come to an end: Hulu announced today that the Emmy-winning actor will star in their original series The Way, alongside Michelle Monaghan.
According to a press release:
The Way comes to Hulu from Universal Television and Jason Katims’ True Jack Productions and was created by Jessica Goldberg, who will write and executive-produce the series, along with Katims and Michelle Lee of True Jack Productions.
Paul will play Eddie Cleary, a convert to a controversial movement with a wayward past. He’s a husband (to “Sarah Cleary” played by Michelle Monaghan) and father who suffers a crisis of faith when all that he’s come to accept as truth in his life is fundamentally challenged. The Way examines a family at the center of a controversial movement struggling with relationships, marriage and power, with each episode taking an in-depth look at what it means to choose between the life we live and the life we want.
The series is slated to premiere this winter.
This sounds like a mix of Rectify and The Leftovers and the “Movementarians” episode of The Simpsons. That could be very good, or overwrought and terrible. The former is likely considering the talent involved, and if Paul wants to promote The Way, I’m sure a certain game show would love to have him back.
