Showtime Is Releasing Their Own Stand-Alone Streaming Service Next Month

Just a couple of months ago, HBO unleashed HBO Now onto the world, and it looks like Showtime is next. On July 12, the cable channel will be launching their own stand-alone streaming service to users without a cable subscription for the first time. The service will be called Showtime — for lack of a better title — and the network is partnering with Apple on the deal which will bring the service to Apple TV, iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch anywhere in the U.S. as long as a subscription to the app is purchased.

When sizing up the competition, the Showtime app will be more affordable at $10.99 a month compared to HBO Now at $14.99. Subscribers will have access to the network’s series like Masters of Sex, Ray Donovan, Homeland, Happyish and Penny Dreadful, along with a bunch of movies, documentaries and even sports programming.

Speaking of sports programming… the service will offer live stream capabilities of both the East and West Coast feeds of anything airing on the network, including that boxing match you so desperately want to watch in real time.

Plus, Showtime is launching the platform with plenty of time to work out any bugs before the Twin Peaks revival series premieres on the network next year.

Showtime will be available on all Apple devices on July 12 with additional providers and platforms to be announced soon. Your move, HBO.
