In the season eight episode of The Simpsons, “Hurricane Neddy,” Leftorium owner Ned Flanders shows his angry side. It’s why he checks into a mental asylum, and, even when he’s cured, he still ominously threatens Springfield, “And if you really tick me off, I’m gonna run you down with my car.” That Ned, he’s so craz-ay, and he’s also the inspiration for the appropriately pissed-off metalcore band Okilly Dokilly, who boast, “Most of our songs are direct Ned quotes.”
“Myself and our drummer (Bled Ned) were in line at a grocery store, entertaining ourselves by coming up with really cutesy names for really hardcore, brutal bands,” [lead singer Head Ned] says. “The name Okilly Dokilly came up and was very funny to us. We ran with it. I contacted a few friends (Red Ned, Thread Ned, and Stead Ned), and here we are. Most of us have played in other bands around our hometown…This is definitely the heaviest sounding project any of us Neds have done.” (Via)
Okilly Dokilly — Aw Hell Diddly Ding Dong Cult would’ve worked, too — are playing their first live show on September 5 in Phoenix, where they’ll dress in Ned’s iconic green sweater, except for one guy who feels like he’s wearing nothing at all, nothing at all, nothing at all.
Have a listen to some devil (Flanders) music.
