“Supergirl Soars.”
“Supergirl Takes Off.”
“It’s a Bird, It’s a Plane, It’s Supergirl‘s Ratings.”
No matter which strained reference you go with, they all mean the same thing: Supergirl is a hit. Jeb Bush’s favorite show, which premiered on CBS last night (here’s our review), was watched by 12.9 million viewers (including a 3.2 rating in the 18-49 demo), making it the fall season’s number one debut.
Here’s how it compared to other premieres:
Blindspot, NBC: 10.6 mil/3.1
Life in Pieces, CBS: 11.3 mil/2.6
Rosewood, Fox: 7.5 mil/2.4
Heroes Reborn, NBC: 6.6 mil/2.1
Quantico, ABC: 7.9 mil/1.9
Limitless, CBS: 9.9 mil/1.9
Code Black, CBS: 8.6 mil/1.5
Blood & Oil, ABC: 6.4 mil/1.4
The Player, NBC: 4.9 mil/1.2
Minority Report, Fox: 3.1 mil/1.1 (Via)
That 3.2 million is actually the fourth best of any show’s premiere this year, behind only The Walking Dead, Empire, and Better Call Saul. That’s the good news. Here’s the bad: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. debuted to 12.12 million viewers — now it’s down to 3.85. Those numbers are positively Glee-esque, which Melissa Benoist was also in, long after everyone stopped paying attention (it went from 11.07 million at the end of season one to 2.54 million for the final episode). Supergirl can fly… but can she keep an audience?
(There’s another terrible headline for the pile.)
