Skye McCole Bartusiak, best known for playing youngest daughter of Mel Gibson’s character in the 2000 film The Patriot, has passed away. Bartusiak was 21. “We lost our girl,” her mother, Helen McCole Bartusiak, told CNN. “She was a kind and really beautiful girl.”
A cause of death is unknown, although she passed away in her sleep. However, according to her mother, Bartusiak had been suffering from epileptic seizures in the last few days.
As a child actor, Bartusiak appeared in The Cider House Rules and Don’t Say a Word with Michael Douglas. More recently, she has had roles in 24, Lost, House M.D. and CSI.
It’s tragic to lose anyone, and even more so to lose someone so young and so seemingly unexpectedly. Our thoughts go out to her family.
Here’s seven-year-old Bartusiak in The Patriot.
