Amazon has approved their next round of pilots, including a very interesting project from Lethal Weapon screenwriter and Iron Man 3 director Shane Black. He leads a group that includes a new show from David E. Kelley called Trial and another project that aims to be a successor to Mad Men.

Black will take on the ultra violent western series Edge, based on the book series of the same name. Deadline adds in some of the particulars behind the production:

Lethal Weapon and Iron Man 3 screenwriter Shane Black has Edge, a spaghetti Western based on the Edge books by George Gilman. Fred Dekker, who is working with Black on the upcoming Predator sequel, wrote the teleplay from a story by him and Black who will direct. The two executive produce with Barry Josephson and David Greenblatt.

The Daily Dot notes that there are at least 60 books in the Edge series, giving a lot for Black to draw for if the series does end up moving past its pilot. It’s certainly the most interesting of those presented (at least for me).

Joining Kelley and Black is The Patriot, a pilot from Steve Conrad (The Pursuit of Happyness) about a father at the state department and his sons. One is a senator and the other is an Iraq War veteran. There’s also The Good Girls Revolt, a Mad Men-flavored period drama based in the 1970s that comes from writer Dana Calvo (Covert Affairs).

Until those pop up on Amazon, we could soon enjoy The Man In The High Tower or Mad Dogs from Shawn Ryan. They got the full series order alongside The New Yorker Presents. There’s also a crop of kid shows and pilots that have been picked up and you can catch a run down over here.
