Bill Hader paid a visit to his old friend Seth Meyers on Late Night last night, and the conversation between the longtime Saturday Night Live standouts inevitably turned to Hader’s most famous SNL character (and Meyers’ beautiful bride): Stefon.
Hader talked about the origins of Stefon (the character’s first SNL appearance wasn’t on “Weekend Update”) and what it was like watching his amazing pre-taped sendoff from a screen backstage while holding hands with Meyers. “We both fell apart,” Hader explained.
For those craving fresh doses of Stefon, Hader has nixed the idea of a movie, but Meyers says Stefon will show up on Late Night at some point. That would be his first appearance since returning to SNL for Meyers’ final show.
Because this post took a more somber turn than I expected, let’s close it with a look back at one of the more hopeful moments in recent world history: Stefon’s first “Weekend Update” appearance on SNL.
