Were UPROXX favorites Alison Brie and Jennifer Lawrence to star in a TV show together now, recaps of other series would cease to exist: the entire Internet’s efforts would be put into making GIFs and high-res screencaps of every scene. But in 2007, they didn’t have quite the clout they do now, which is why their show together, Not Another High School Show, never made it to air. That, and it sounds AWFUL.
As you might have guessed, Not Another High School Show is related to Not Another Teen Movie, one of the best spoof films of the 2000s, which is a bit like saying portobello is the least awful mushroom, but still. (Note: I hate mushrooms.) According to Splitsider, as part of their wonderful Lost Roles series, “Not Another Teen Movie writer Mike Bender developed this TV version of the movie for Comedy Central, with the emphasis being on spoofing TV teen dramas like The O.C., Dawson’s Creek, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.” The network passed on it, and Nick Swardson’s Gay Robot, in favor of Dan Harmon’s The Sarah Silverman Program, The Naked Trucker and T-Bones Show, and Freak Show, but the pilot can be viewed on iTunes (via F*ck Yeah Alison Brie).
Brie played Muffy, a parody of Sarah Michelle Gellar’s titular character from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, though a slightly more sexual Buffy, with short skirts and tight leopard print shirts. Here’s a not-at-all-embarrassing still:
And one of J-Law:
It’s a shame Not Another High School Show wasn’t picked up — they really would have socked it to GOSSIP GIRL MORE LIKE GOSSIP HURL.
