Preliminary note: Spoilerzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz kinda
Charles Dance dropped by MTV UK to do a little quickie interview to promote Dracula Untold, in which he plays a fictional version of the debaucherous Roman emperor Caligula. However, as one does when one has Tywin Lannister in a room, the MTV interviewer tossed a few Game of Thrones questions his way. After first dodging a question about his character’s “suitably ignominious end” at the end of last season on account of spoilers, he then said this about the upcoming fifth season:
“Well, I’m not completely missing out on the next series. More than that I’m not going to say. You haven’t seen the last of Tywin Lannister, is all I’ll say.”
Now, unless the television version of Game of Thrones takes a HARD left turn away from the events in the books (SPOOKY GHOST TYWIN HAUNTING CASTERLY ROCK), this is probably referring to his character’s funeral, or maybe some brief flashbacks or something. Whatever, fine. My favorite thing about it, however, is the boundless glee he appears to get out of teasing the information, like he can’t help himself. “I can’t say. I really can’t. Let’s just say I may be back, but that’s it. Can’t say anything else. I just won’t let you pull it out of me. But yes, I will be back. Didn’t hear it from me, though. Or DID YOU? My lips are sealed. I shoot the scene tomorrow. In an unnamed European city that I can’t reveal. Belfast. But that’s ALL I’ll say.”
Actually, no, I lied. My favorite part is when he said “You haven’t seen the last of Tywin Lannister” in his normal speaking voice and he still managed to sound like a supervillain getting hauled off to space prison in a cartoon from the 1980s. Charles Dance is the greatest.
