Earlier this month, Dave Grohl and Foo Fighters set up shop at The Late Show with David Letterman to promote their new series, Sonic Highway, and album of the same name, and fans of the band, as well as the host, loved every second of it. Whether or not that inspired this latest residency announcement is unknown, but Craig Ferguson decided that he’s going to have a week of performances from the same musical guest, too. Beginning on Monday, November 24, Metallica will be spending each night until that Friday “shaking the rafters” of The Late Late Show for no reason other than Ferguson and the band wanted to get loose.
Well, almost no reason.
“What better way to celebrate Craig’s awesome tenure at CBS than to come and shake the rafters for a whole week,” Lars Ulrich tells Rolling Stone. “Nothing to sell, nothing to promote (except a reissue DVD)… purely hanging at Craig’s personal request. Bring it!” (Via Rolling Stone)
Except, as Rolling Stone points out, the band is selling a special vinyl edition of their new single “Lords of Summer,” and Metallica is promoting the 10th anniversary re-release of Some Kind of Monster. But aside from those two things, this is all about the guys swinging by to send their favorite Scottish comic and eventual game show host into the sunset with some excitement and good, old-fashioned rock n’ roll.
